Who had short heart pain reading Crime and Punishment?

– I’m a non-native speaker of English and read Crime and Punishment from Penguin Classics translated by McDuff. His translation style was very reader-friendly and easy to read, although I gave up on The Brothers Karamazov by the same translator halfway though.

I must say I was very much impressed with this book and read with excitement in difficult times. 80 pages each day and whenever Raskolnikov did strange things in his delirium, I felt horrors. Later when the police chief(or detective whatsoever) had a long, suspenseful conversation with Raskolnikov and finally states that ‘You are the murderer.’, I was flabbergasted and had a heart pain that lasted about few seconds.

Also the second attack that made my heart ache was the statement that Rodya’s mother died.

Have you had this kind of experience when you read C&P, or any other novels?
