What kinds books do enjoy reading in small doses?

– FWIW, I’m not looking for recommendations. Just wanted to start a conversation!

Many of y’all enjoy reading (or accidentally end up reading) for hours. I am definitely not one of those people! But I do enjoy reading regularly. I’m a full time doctoral student and don’t have a ton of time to sit down with a good book and just read. I’ve found myself using services like Libby so when I’m on campus and have a few minutes before or after class, I can read a few pages without bringing another book with me. For those folks like me who read in small doses, what are you reading?

Non-fiction is great for this for me since there’s no real plot to follow. I can turn to most pages and read a short paragraph about something interesting. Books like “Thinking Fast and Slow” or “Atomic Habits” have both been really helpful for me to stay engaged with productivity and my academic endeavors.

I’ve also enjoyed reading memoirs for this reason. While there is a definitely a story, I find myself able to retain more of the chronology since there usually aren’t a ton of names to remember in a convoluted plot meant to twist and turn. Tara Westover’s memoir, “Educated” and Janette McCurdy’s memoir “I’m Glad My Mom Died” were both wild reads with fairly short chapters.

I’ve also enjoyed reading easier fiction in my little windows of time, too. I recently read “Catherine House” by Elisabeth Thomas. While it wasn’t my favorite (no spoilers), it was recommended from a reading podcast as a good autumnal/Halloween season read. Quick read and easily digestible in small sittings.
