**Important reminder**: The AMA with Stephen Graham Jones will be **October 25th at 1pm ET,** two days before the fourth and final discussion thread. There may be spoilers in the AMA. But the final chapters are the shortest leg of this read at around 16% of the book so hopefully everyone can finish in time for the event.

Hello everyone,

Welcome to the third discussion thread for the October selection, *My Heart is a Chainsaw* by Stephen Graham Jones! Hopefully you have all managed to pick up the book but if you haven’t, you can still catch up and join in on a later discussion; however, this thread will be openly discussing up though (and including) **Chapter 13: Final Exam**.

Below are some questions to help start conversation; feel free to answer some or all of them, or just post about whatever your thoughts on the material.

1. What are some of your favorite characters, parts or quotes? Which parts did you find confusing?
2. What is the significance of this slasher violating the Big Night and kicking off the massacre on July 3rd? Why is this seemingly the trope which has most defied pattern?
3. Where does Jade place fault for her predicament within this slash cycle? Do any of them have autonomy in their actions or are they all beholden to the patterns? Is there an element of self-fulfilling prophecy at play?
4. What has being a part of a real-life slasher taught Jade? How has it changed her?
5. What other questions or predictions do you have moving forward and what do you hope to see? Which unanswered questions are the most interesting to you?
6. BONUS: What questions do you have for the author?

Reminder that fourth and final discussion will be posted on Friday, August 27th and will cover everything in the book.
